Saxophonist • Composer • Educator

Hani’el Mastriani-Levi (b. 2000) is a saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. After immigrating to the United States in 2012, he began performing with the Junior Jazz Foundation across the Southeast. In high school, he recorded an album with the Rialto Honors Combo, Playing the Music of Roy Hargrove, which featured original arrangements of Roy Hargrove’s music.

Currently, Hani’el can be found performing and collaborating with diverse artists around Atlanta. He leads a quartet that performs his original compositions alongside the music of his heroes. As a sideman, he has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Kevin Bales, Louis Heriveaux, Terreon Gully, Rhonda Thomas, Leah Calvert, and Joe Gransden. He has performed in venues such as the Rialto Center for the Arts, Spivey Hall, the High Museum of Art, the Velvet Note, the Jazz Corner, the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, and also in the Atlanta Jazz Festival and Hilton Head Jazz for All Ages Festival.

Hani’el graduated from Georgia State University in 2022 with highest honors, receiving a BM in Jazz Studies. He studied primarily with pianist Kevin Bales and saxophonist David Sánchez. As a part of the GSU Big Band and GSU Honors Combo, he has had the opportunity to learn and perform with visiting artists such as Miguel Zenón, Sean Jones, Etienne Charles, Ulysses Owens Jr, Eric Alexander, Tierney Sutton, and Tom Scott.

As an educator, Hani’el teaches privately and through the Rialto Jazz For Kids and Rialto Youth Jazz Orchestra outreach-programs. These programs are sponsored by Georgia State University and provide clinics to numerous middle-schools and high-schools in the Atlanta metro area. Hani’el also teaches at several camps during the summer, and has taught at the Hilton Head Jazz Camp and the GSU Jazz Workshop.
